Hendrix Employees Support College

CONWAY, Ark. (Oct. 11, 2006)

More than 60 percent of the Hendrix College faculty, staff and retired faculty participated in the college’s annual fund and capital campaign solicitation this year. Since the campaign began, contributions from 248 donors have totaled $660,970.

More than $150,000 of that total was contributed during an organized faculty-staff campaign in the spring 2006 semester. The campaign was co-chaired by Cathy Goodwin, representing Hendrix staff, and by Dr. Nancy Fleming and Professor Stephen Kerr, representing the faculty.

Funds raised from current and retired employees will be used in the college’s annual fund and capital campaign. The annual fund supports scholarships and financial aid. The $70 million capital campaign, “A Commitment to National Leadership: The Hendrix Campaign,” will help fund the Odyssey Program, the Wellness and Athletics Center now under construction, and a new campus center.

Faculty-staff support of the campaign benefits the college not only through the money donated but as an indicator of campus support of the campaign priorities – something foundations and funding agencies consider when making their awards.

“Hendrix is blessed by faculty and staff who are deeply committed to our students and their total educational experience on this campus,” said Dr. Rock Jones, executive vice president and dean of Advancement. “The overwhelming response of faculty and staff to the priorities of this campaign reflects this passion for our students and the desire to ensure that future generations of Hendrix students benefit from educational programs and facilities that maximize their college opportunities”

“We are extremely grateful for all that our faculty and staff do for students every day as well as for their generous philanthropic gifts to the college,” Jones added.

Hendrix, founded in 1876, is a selective, residential, undergraduate liberal arts college that emphasizes experiential learning in a demanding yet supportive environment. The college has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church since 1884. For more information, visit www.hendrix.edu.
